ABOUT THE kenya PROJECT
The Kenya team is partnered with the Masogo market community to implement a water distribution system. We are currently in our second phase of implementation focusing on sanitation after providing a clean and consistent water source in the market. A deep well has been drilled and a water tower with storage tanks and solar panels is in construction. The community surrounding the Masogo market is incredibly welcoming and excited for the development of our project. We are partnered with the Golden Girls Foundation, a local organization devoted to ensuring young women have the resources to go to school while going through a mentorship program.

2023
Assessment Trip
During Summer Quarter 2023, students traveled to Masogo in Kisumu, Kenya to conduct tests on water quality, interview locals regarding the Masogo Market and water usage, and discuss the project with community officials.
2024
Implementation Trip
During Summer 2024, the team traveled back to the Masogo Market community for the implementation of a water distribution system. We connected with the in-country contractor responsible for installing the tall steel tower and tank system and the local civil engineer carrying out our kiosk design. Additionally, we met with the newly formed water board that will be managing the system, performed soil testing for the next stage of the project, and conducted focus groups for what should be done with the water next.
